Kirstin Beswick


Kirstin Beswick specialises in Criminal Defence in the Crown Court. Her practice includes Rape and Serious Sexual Offences, Serious Violence and matters of dishonesty, including fraud.  Her analytical background (she has a degree in mathematics) gives her an edge when cross-examining experts and her frank, yet sensitive, approach means clients always know where they are.


In addition Kirstin undertakes regulatory defence work and has particularly had success before the MPTS in hearings brought by the General Medical Council.

Kirstin is also regularly instructed in Family Law matters and in matters of common law. She is always happy to give a preliminary view on cases.

Kirstin, with Ben Knight, hosts the innovative NorthPod Law, a weekly podcast aimed at keeping legal professionals abreast with legal news and changes. Her views have also been sought by national television and radio.

Notable cases


R v Parker - ongoing appeal conviction in regard to false imprisonment and assault. Sexual offences were removed from the jury following a successful application by the defence.

R v E – [2011] EWCA Crim 2496. Successful appeal of sentence for non compliance with the rules of registration for sex offenders.

R v Hensel - [2012] EWCA Crim 2342 Of the 7 clauses in the SOPO, 5 were quashed and the remaining 2 rewritten. 

R v Bell – aquittal after trial regarding rape of a prostitute.

R v Gomes da Nacamiento - acquittal following trial of a 'drugs mule'.

R v Walker – successful challenge against joining witness intimidation (defendant intimidating complainant) to the indictment.

Re Dr Malik. - Doctor facing allegations of sexual misconduct and incompetence. After final hearing all matters he denied were found unproved. His fitness to practice was found to be unimpaired and no warning was issued.
